Installing an AdHoc Application on your iPhone or iPod Touch
Note: these screenshots are taken from a Windows machine, though the Mac install happens in much the same fashion and embedded notes address the minor differences. At this point, the beta software is considered fairly stable and reliable, though it is recommended with any install that you first ensure your device has been backed up with a full sync before proceeding.
Before beginning, launch the iTunes software on your computer and then connect your iPhone/iPod Touch device via the USB cable.
- Save the downloaded .zip file to a convenient location, such as your Desktop.
- Extract the .zip file and navigate to the extracted files.
MAC USERS: You should just be able to double-click the .zip file and it will automatically be extracted. WINDOWS 7 & VISTA USERS: The built-in “Extract All…” command corrupts the application so that it cannot be installed. You should try using a different zip program like WinZip or WinRar to extract the Zip file. Otherwise, ask the application developer to send you the application as a .ipa file instead of a .zip file, then you don’t have to unzip it.
- WINDOWS USERS (pre WINDOWS 7 & VISTA): Right-click the .zip file and select Extract All… . Step through the wizard and accept the defaults by clicking Next.

- Drag-and-drop the .mobileprovision file onto Library → Applications in iTunes. On the Mac, you can just drag it to the iTunes icon in your dock.

NOTE: If the .mobileprovision file is not transferred to iTunes correctly, the app will not install on your device. You can confirm the presence of this file in iTunes by checking in the location given for your OS here (where ~ is current user name with which you have logged in to your computer):
MAC) ~/Library/MobileDevice/Provisioning Profiles
WINDOWS) C:\Users\~\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileDevice\Provisioning Profiles
- Find the .app folder among the extracted files, but do not open it yet. For FitDeck Mobile, this folder will be named something similar to FDM_v2.0.31x.app. Note: the images used in these instructions feature an app named CCTerminal, so whenever you see CCTerminal, just think FDM_v2.0.31x (or similar) instead.

- Drag-and-drop the whole .app folder onto Library → Applications in iTunes. On the Mac, you can just drag it onto the iTunes icon in the dock. For the time being you need not worry about the folder with the .app.dSYM extension.

- Verify that the application shows up in Library → Applications. Note that it will not have its normal icon.

- In iTunes, select your Device under Devices (note: your device will need to be connected to your computer via the USB cable at this time to appear in the device list). Choose the Applications tab, and make sure that the new application is checked to sync.

- Press the Sync button in iTunes to sync your device and try out the new app!
---------------------
- DIDN'T WORK?? Please read below for troubleshooting tips (especially if you see a "signer is not valid" error).
- First, verify that the .mobileprovision file is on the mobile device by going to: Settings -> General -> Profile. If there is no entry in the list for Profile then somehow that file did not get transferred (please reference Step 3 above and repeat the install process from there if necessary). If there is an entry, please note what the Received date of the profile is.
- If the above does not resolve the issue, please make note of the answers to these questions:
Is the computer in question the same one that's always used to sync the device? Under the same user account? Is another computer/account ever used and have you tried the process on that one?
Was the device plugged in via USB when the .mobileprovision file was dragged to iTunes? Assuming it is, could you try to drag the .mobileprovision file right onto the device's listing in iTunes?
Have you confirmed the presence of this file in iTunes by checking in the location given for your OS here (where ~ is current user name with which you have logged in to your computer):
MAC) ~/Library/MobileDevice/Provisioning Profiles
WINDOWS) C:\Users\~\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileDevice\Provisioning Profiles
